FAQ: How is "social media" being used at the GoldRing? What does Wetpaint do?

What's up with the advertisements? The advertisements are how Wetpaint gets paid and it's how GoldRing gets to use Wetpaint for free. GoldRing has no control over advertising banners and keyword advertising (aka Google Ads).


Social Networking. Member-based communities that enable users to link to one another based on common interests and through invitations. Examples of Social Networking Sites include Facebook, LinkedIn and MySpace
Note: GoldRing-Wetpaint connects to Facebook; member-to-member emails; member-to-group emails


Blog / Microblog. Blogs are sites where users post regular text and other media, then receive comments from readers. Microblogs enable users to send brief text updates (e.g. 140 characters or fewer). Twitter is currently the hot tactic in this category
Note: GoldRing-Wetpaint has no blogging function, but GoldRing blogging is an option via BlogTalk Radio.


Crowdsourcing. Forum where people collectively contribute on a given topic or problem and are often compensated with recognition
Note: GoldRing-Wetpaint uses “crowdsourcing” and is a significant aspect of GoldRing. It's a crowdsourcing adventure!


Media Sharing. A service that provides users with tools for uploading, tagging and/or sharing media
Note: Yes with Wetpaint, through profile pages, public pages, collaboration sub-wikis


Wiki & Collaboration Software. Publishing tools that encourage collaboration by allowing multiple users to edit documents

Social Bookmarking. Sites that allow users to store and tag Web pages and benefit from the work of others when searching

Discussion Forum. Threaded discussions for communities of interest, with threads on specific topics
Note: Yes with Wetpaint, but features purposely and consciously under-utilized and policies conflict with user capabilities. Please read Etiquette and Protocol.


Virtual World. A digital environment that simulates a physical world and encourages users to interact via avatars
Note: No with Wetpaint core features, but partnerships are being discussed in conjunction with digital credit systems. This avenue of virtual world digital exchange is a significant undertaking in the exploratory and planning phases.


Social Widget. Small apps that pull info from social networking profiles and display them elsewhere
Note: Yes. Wetpaint provides standard, and html code for most anything else
